Be honest, do you skip them?
You know – the genealogies – the lists of names?
The long lists of unpronounceable, unimportant, long-forgotten names scattered throughout the bible.
Maybe you stumble your way through the first few lines, give up and move on.
They’re there for a reason.
They’re part of the story.
Have a read of Matthew 1:1-17.
Three groups of 14 generations.
Neat. Tidy. Maybe telling us something.
That there’s someone orchestrating all of this.
Bringing it to this point.
And the time was now.
“But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4).
