Advent devotions – day 9

In the Old Testament God gave his people instructions for the Tabernacle.

A tent. Representing God living amongst his people.

In Jesus, God has pitched his tent.

That’s what John tells us.

“The Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us” (John 1:14). Literally, “The Word became flesh and tabernacled amongst us”. What the tabernacle could only ever represent in the Old Testament, Jesus now manifests in the flesh.

Jesus. God. Man.

Heaven and Earth kiss in the person of Jesus.

Jesus, “who being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped. But made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness” (Philippians 2:6-7).

Jesus is where we know God. Jesus is where we meet God.
