Advent devotions – day 6

Ponder: to consider something deeply.

One word can convey so much.

Pondered. I like that about Mary. She pondered. That’s what Luke says in 2:19.

“Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart”.

What did she ponder I wonder?

Gabriel’s initial visit, I’m sure.

I’m guessing her visit to Elizabeth’s house and all that her relative had declared to her.

And the angel’s visit to Joseph. She and Joseph must have shared.

And the shepherds. Luke doesn’t tell us but you’ve got to assume that the shepherds told Mary about the visit of angels to them on the hillside.

And “Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart”.

I wonder what we do with God’s activity in our lives? Do we reflect on lessons learned, prayers answered, and divine moments? Are we waiting in anticipation to see how God will work things out? What He will do next?  Do we treasure and ponder?

I think I want to begin learning the art of pondering.
